So you want to create a splash page for your website, and you are using it to control where your visitors go, but what is a splash page telling your visitors that you don’t know?
First off splash pages where a great way to introduce your website by welcoming them to your site but times have changed and the most common uses for a splash page is to prevent under aged teeny-boppers from getting into your porn stash. So you need to ask yourself what are you trying to tell your visitor?
A splash page is asking your visitor if they wish to enter your website when they in fact already have a gone through the trouble of looking you up, typing in your website address into the address bar and clicking the little green arrow. After all those valuable seconds they wasted just to visit your site that when they get there you ask them, are you sure you want to come in? It’s a little redundant in my opinion, wouldn’t you agree?
So if you are starting a new website project and you are having a long debate over if you should have a splash page or not, ask yourself “Do I want my visitors to spend time on my site, or quickly click the back button?” With clever site structure and website flow planning you can achieve what your hopes and dreams are and get people to stick to your content.
